The Science of Reading Custom E-Learning for Teach For America

The Challenge

Teach For America (TFA) prepares thousands of talented new college graduates each year to go out and teach some of the most underserved and at-risk kids in schools across the United States. This was the second year – 2021 – that we worked with TFA on their Science of Reading online course for their corp members. They contacted us to help them rethink their course content, provide some enhancements, such as additional infographics and animations, and develop a solution that would work in Articulate Rise, a web-based interactive development tool they selected as their e-learning platform.

The Solution

In 2020 the pandemic forced TFA to deliver their entire summer program online. During this first summer they had to scramble to develop all of their online learning solutions and select a delivery platform. For this second iteration they opted to have their content developed in a more self-contained web platform that could be more easily moved between learning management systems, affording them flexibility going forward. Articulate Rise is part of the suite of Articulate 360 solutions. It outputs as interactive web pages with a table-of-contents menu that is easy to navigate and allowed us to embed a variety of engagement solutions, including interactive media solutions within these pages. We followed their style guide as well as conformed to the approach already established for their other Rise solutions, helping them create a new and improved Summer Institute for their corp members.
